Before we dive in, I want to invite you to a raffle! May 6th marks the solar return of my blog about the First Saturn Return. To celebrate its birthday, I’m giving away three reports about YOUR next solar return. Complete this form to participate. And good luck! 🍀
Hi, babes! Welcome back.
How are you doing?
I hope everything is OK.
By the time you’re reading this, Mercury will be direct in Pisces. Hurray!
This week we also have a Full Moon in Libra, and the ending of Venus's retrograde in Pisces. Both of these events occur on Saturday. You can read more about them by getting the free astrological calendar for 2025.
I will cover Venus turning direct next week. For now, let’s focus on Mercury direct, and the potential movement it will bring.
Mercury direct as a symbol of movement
Mercury retrogrades three to four times per year in the same element. These retrogradations are like seasons of the same TV show. They are thematically connected. However, we are only able to make those connections once some time has passed.
In 2025, Mercury retrogrades in Fire signs.
The first retrograde phase of the year is over now.
Mercury started retrograding in Aries in March 15th. March the 24th marked the middle of the retrogradation.
On March the 29th, Mercury went back to Pisces. And now, on Monday the 7th of April, Mercury turns direct in the last sign of the zodiac.
When astrologers describe Mercury, they always mention it as the planet representing communication, learning, writing, and travelling. But they forget to mention that Mercury is also connected to movement.
Prominent athletes usually have a prominent Mercury in their birth charts. Mercury is related to the nervous system, which rules coordination and movement control.
So, in this edition of the newsletter, I want you to focus on moving forward based on the introspection you did during Mercury retrograde.
To do so, I’ll share with you some characteristics about the different phases of Mercury’s direct and how to engage with them.
The phases of Mercury direct
Mercury retrograde is not all equal.
The first part of Mercury retrograde is the Epimethean phase. After the conjunction with the Sun, the second part is known as the Promethean phase.
These names come from Greek mythology.
Epimetheus and Prometheus were brothers. Epimetheus was slow and reflective, while Prometheus was witty and courageous. This is why the first part of Mercury retrograde is known as the Epimethean phase and the second part is known as the Promethean phase.
This Promethean and Epimethean phases are also present when Mercury is direct.
The Promethean phase of Mercury direct lasts for about 50 days. It begins when Mercury turns direct and ends with Mercury's superior conjunction with the Sun. Superior conjunctions happen when planets are direct, while inferior conjunctions occur when planets are retrograde.
It is an ideal time to act instinctively, with minimal concern for the outcomes that will arise.
This doesn’t mean you don’t have preferences or objectives you want to achieve. It means that you have to move forward with less expectation.
Something will manifest, but you can’t anticipate what will work and what won’t work. Experimentation is key.
The excitement of freedom is the motivator, not the achievements themselves.
Your mind now has full control. Your powers of observation and action are heightened. Even though mental activity is at its peak, consequences are not always considered.
The Promethean phase of Mercury direct is the ideal time to test the untried. You should act on the ideas that surfaced during the reflection period of Mercury retrograde.
There’s a “full Mercury” moment at the end of this cycle. The superior conjunction of Mercury with the Sun is seen as a Full Moon. Now, 50 days after Mercury turned direct, the revelations of the inferior retrograde conjunction are actualized.
During the superior conjunction, two outcomes are possible. On the one hand, you could be blinded by your will and ego, lacking rational guidance. Conversely, you can also be inspired by the pure genius of your actions.
The results manifested during the superior conjunction reflect the actions taken during the 50 days of the Promethean direct phase. And these actions were based on the contemplation that was engaged in during the preceding retrograde phase.
The Promethean direct phase of Mercury is an experimental phase of action. It’s a time when you can defy convention. But, eventually, your ideas or actions must be tested against experience.
That testing vibe is characteristic of the Epimethean direct phase of Mercury.
The Epimethean phase of Mercury direct lasts for about 50 days. It begins with Mercury's superior conjunction with the Sun, and it ends when Mercury turns retrograde. The best use of this energy is for completing pending tasks.
Projects, ideas, and actions have matured. Mercury’s Epimethean direct phase offers the opportunity to reap the rewards.
Though still a forward-moving time, it is also a time for thoughtfulness. This phase requires more deliberation before initiation.
When Mercury turns retrograde again, much of what has manifested over the last few months could be reviewed.
How to use the phases of Mercury direct in your life
Since I firmly believe in embodying astrology, I want to give you some practical advice about this astrological theory.
Let’s use Mercury retrograde in Aries in 2025 as an example.
The inferior conjunction between Mercury and the Sun occurred on the 24th of March. That event initiated the Promethean retrograde phase of Mercury.
Then, Mercury turned direct on the 7th of April. That event started the Promethean direct phase of Mercury.
Around 50 days later, on May 30th, Mercury will meet again with the Sun. This is a superior conjunction because Mercury is direct.
That’s when the revelations of the inferior conjunction, which occurred on March 24th, are actualized.
If your revelation during Mercury retrograde was that you needed to socialize more, 50 days after that insight you can evaluate your actions. Reflect on what you did or did not do considering that epiphany.
To connect with the direct cycle of Mercury, you should take action from the 7th of April until the 30th of May.
What has transpired? What did you achieve? What have you changed? What did you learn by experimenting with different projects?
The Epimethean phase will occur during June. Action can continue, but it’s a more introverted period.
Instead of starting new endeavors, you can reap the rewards of previous actions. You can also rest more and reflect on what you have done.
The next Mercury retrograde starts on July 18th in the zodiac sign of Leo. And then, some new epiphanies of what needs to change will arise.
Planets keep moving, but the quality of the movement is not regular. It has different characteristics.
Remember this whenever you feel like you have to be “on” all the time.
Instead of pushing forward day in and day out, connect with the cosmic flow. It will be better for you and your nervous system.
Prompts for Week 8
Write [Week 8: Saturn in Aries] Movement on top of the page and the week we’re in, just like in the last edition.
What epiphanies did you get from March 15th, 2025, until March the 24th? Focus on those reflections related with communication, learning, writing, socializing, travelling, and moving your body.
Write 5 concrete actions to activate those epiphanies. What can you do to embody the changes you need to implement? Mercury revealed these changes to you when it was retrograde in Aries.
Take action! Even if you can only start small, take the first step based on one of those actions you wrote in Prompt 3. It doesn’t have to be something extraordinary. You’ll focus on these actions from April 7th until May 30th. Maybe you can set aside some time in your calendar to connect with those actions every week. Then, I’ll tell you how to continue with this process.
Is this helpful to you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
Thank you for being here, and until next time!
With love,
Valentina
